La Celia ‘Pioneer’ ‘Reserva’ Uco Valley Malbec 2011

Malbec from Argentina
Review Date : 10-Jul-2014
Very full, black-red with some youthful purple hues. The nose is soft and voluminous with primary aromas of ripe dark plum fruit along with some subtle herb notes and jammy elements, the bouquet fruit-focussed and up-front. Full-bodied, sweet and juicy, ripe fruit flavours of dark plums, berry fruit and jam are encased by grainy tannin structure and enlivened by bright and refreshing acidity. This has a vibrant and energetic mouthfeel guided by a positive and concentrated core with some sinewy grip that carries the wine to a tightly bound, lingering finish of black fruits, earth and spices. This is a tightly structured, sweet-fruited Malbec with ripe plums, berries and hints of jam. Serve with barbecued fare and Mediterranean inspired cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from ‘La Consulta’ at 1050 m.a.s.l., fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine spending 24 days on skins, with 80% of the wine aged 9 months in seasoned French and American oak barrels. 17.0/20 Jul 2014 RRP $25.00
