La Bascula ‘Catalan Eagle’ Terra Alta’ Garnacha/Carinena/Syrah 2011

Blended Red from Spain
Review Date : 03-Sep-2013
Very full, dense, near-saturated, purple-hued, black-red colour. The nose is fine and tightly bound, quite elegant in expression with intermingling aromas of black berried fruit, earth, dark herbs and olives, along with some dusty, savoury, seasoned oak. Full-bodied, the flavours are light and a little unforthcoming. Tight, fine-grained tannins are the feature, forming a firm backbone. Fruit flavours of black berries and minerals emerge, and along with good acidity, carry through to a grainy-textured, dry finish with spicy fruit notes. This is a tightly constructed Garnacha-based wine with black fruits and dusty, earthy flavours. Pair with slow-cooked game meat or hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. 45% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, 20% Syrah and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon from the 26 ha family vineyard of Pepe Fuster in Terra Alta, fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine given light oaking. 17.5-/20 Sep 2013 RRP $21.99
