La Baraja Ribera del Duero 2016, Spain

Blended Red from Spain
Review Date : 23-Dec-2022
Full, deep, ruby-red with a garnet shade on the rim. The nose is full and complex, with complex aromas of redcurrants, plum and cassis entwined with dried cranberries, minerals, leather, spice and meatiness. Full-bodied, aromas of red plum, cassis and dried cranberries formed an elegant core, enveloping cloves, nutmeg, leather, meat and minerals. The fruit shows concentration and vibrancy; excellent acidity carries length and drive. Spice elevates and adorns the fine-grained, structured palate, lingering with a hint of cocoa. This red blend shows stunning fruit, subtle age development and an intense, fine-structured tannin framework. Match this with braised short ribs and steak over the next 8 years. A blend of Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, 15% alc, aged 18 months in French oak. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Dec 2022
