Kumeu River ‘Matés Vineyard’ Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 19-Jun-2013
Mendoza clone fruit from the 2.4 ha ‘Matés’ vineyard from vines planted in 1990, hand-picked, WBP and fully barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts, the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak with 100% MLF. Pale straw colour. The bouquet is very fine and tight with intense complex reductive flint and mineral aromas entwined with white stonefruits, The aromatics are very detailed and seamlessly. Medium-bodied, the fruit has a stylish sweetness enhanced by lively acidity. Focussed white stonefruits and flint flavours form a refined, driven core and line, the palate showing considerable concentration and fruit extract. The linearity is a feature and nuances of smoke and toast show with nutty notes on the very long finish. This is a classical ‘Matés’ Chardonnay in the Puligny-Montrachet model and has much to unfold over the next 6+ years. 19.0/20 Jun 2013 RRP $79.99
