Kumeu River ‘Estate’ Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 26-May-2011
Fruit from six vineyard sites in the Kumeu region, fully barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., and aged 11 months in French oak, with 100% MLF. Brilliant pale straw-yellow colour with hints of lemon. This has a very fine bouquet with good depth and intensity of stonefruits and nuts, revealing flinty elements and a little oak spice with air time. An elegantly proportioned wine, this has stylish flavours of white peach, nuts and minerals that reveal oak spiciness in support. The palate has an understated power, with good body and creamy textures from the barrel-fermentation. Excellent acidity completes the wine, the finish quite sustained and nuanced. A classical Kumeu River Chardonnay in the white burgundy mould. Match with rich seafood and all poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 18.5-/20 May 2011 RRP $37.95
