Kumeu River ‘Coddington’ Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 31-Aug-2011
Clone 15 fruit from the 1.8 ha ‘Coddington' vineyard sited between Huapai and Waimauku, fully barrel fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine was aged 12 months in 25% new French oak, with 100% MLF. Full, even, bright straw-yellow colour, this has an elegant but densely packed and concentrated nose of white stonefruits with flinty, mineral notes, as well as nuances of ripe peaches and a hint of smoke. The palate is concentrated with firm and tightly bound white peach fruit flavours that carry a degree of sweetness and succulence, enhanced by fresh, crisp acidity. The wine has breadth, and shows accessibility with its soft, creamy textures surrounding the core of fruit. The finish is sustained and gentle. Stylishly concentrated, this has the richness and freshness to match a wide range of seafood and poultry dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 18.5+/20 Aug 2011 RRP $48.99
