Knoll ‘Smaragd’ ‘Vinotheksfullung’ Gruner Veltliner 2008

Gewurztraminer from Austria
Review Date : 07-Feb-2013
Wachau, fermented to 14.0% alc. and 2.8 g/L rs, the wine aged in old wooden casks. Bright straw-yellow colour with slight golden hues. The bouquet is wonderfully ethereal and grows in volume, very Gewurztraminer-like with spices, rose-water and smoke, all in detail and finesse. Dryish to taste, the palate juxtaposes fresh acid with solidness and broader mouthfeel, along with a little alcohol heat. Spices, floral and honey flavours are distinctive and up-front, but subtle textures provide line and some structure. The finish is long, soft and shows signs of development. This is an exotic and flamboyant style that is beginning to show some attractive breadth. 18.0+/20 Feb 2013
