Kina Cliffs ‘Reserve’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 31-Aug-2016
Dark, even garnet-red colour, lighter edged with some bricking. The nose is firm and intensely concentrated with aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruit harmoniously integrated with undergrowth, dried herbs, game and earth. This has complexing layers of secondary development, unfolding red floral notes with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant in proportion with sweet and luscious, savoury red berry fruit flavours along with layers of game, dried herbs, earth and lifted red floral elements. The palate is bright and juicy, and vibrant in mouthfeel, the fruit sweetness balanced by fine, grainy tannin extraction and structure. The palate has acid tension and leads to a sweet, juicy, elegant finish. This is an elegant, vibrant and sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with complexing savoury development flavours and a fine, grainy structure. Match with lamb and venison, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 5, 115, 667 and 777, from rows dedicated to the 'Reserve' label, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 50% new French oak, with a selection of the 3 best barrels. 45 cases made. 18.0/20 Aug 2016 RRP $45.00
