Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese * 2010

Sweet Wine from Germany
Review Date : 10-Oct-2014
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a hint of gold. Elegant and intensely penetrating with limes, yellow florals and honey. Complexing amalgam with a marmalade and toasty, caramel note. Very sweet on palate, luscious, but with fine acid cut and balance. Concentrated with creamy mouthfeel, unfolding honey, caramel and kero. This will keep 10+ years. Fruit from 3 ha of the 60 ha ‘Sonnenuhr’ site, fermented in fuder to 7.5% alc. and 139 g/L RS. 19.0/20 Oct 2014 RRP $68.00 Bright pale straw-yellow colour with a very pale edge. The nose is very tightly framed and elegantly piercing with pure white florals, minerals and slate. There are complexing nuances of sulphide reduction and slight nutty elements lending interest and subtle detail. Very sweet to taste, this combines pure floral and slatey mineral flavours with a razor-edge piquant and poised palate. Great finesse to the fruit and refined concentration and racy, cutting acidity all in excellent balance. This shows the Wehlener Sonnenuhr terroir and the high acid, pure vintage. 15+ years easily. 7.5% alc., 139 g/L RS. 19.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $68.00
