Kennedy Point Waiheke Island Merlot 2007

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 06-May-2011
A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, wild yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine then aged 16 months in French oak. Very dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, this has a very fine and tightly bound nose showing fresh primary perfumes of violetty florals along with black fruits. There is an underlying herbal note to the bouquet and this also shows on the palate putting the wine at the cool, fresh end of the flavour spectrum. This is a fine-grained, but highly extracted wine showing plenty of grip and drying tannins. The fruit flavours of dark berry and plum fruit, bitter chocolate, herbs and earth show the inherent quality of the fruit. The question is: "Will the tannins resolve into balance?” In the meantime, drink with hearty venison and game meat over the next 5-7 years. 17.0+/20 May 2011 RRP $39.00
