Kendall-Jackson ‘Vintner’s Reserve’ Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Cabernet Sauvignon from USA
Review Date : 14-Jan-2015
92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot from Sonoma County with 9% from Mendocino, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in French and American oak. Very dark, deep, black-red colour. The nose is fresh with softly concentrated, aromatically pure blackcurrant fruit aromas with blackcurrant leaf and cassis elements, the fruit classically varietal, with cooler-spectrum suggestions. Oaking is very sensitive allowing the fruit to be prominent. Medium-full bodied, finely concentrated flavours of blackcurrants and cassis form an elegant and positive core with drive and linearity. Herbs and green olive detail emerge in the glass. The fruit is supported by fine, grainy tannins and the wine is balanced in structure, with soft acidity adding to the fresh fruit and clarity. The extract and tannins carry the wine to a long, textural finish with blackcurrant notes. This is textbook Cabernet Sauvignon with fruit clarity and good structure. Serve with roasted lamb or beef, and with hard cheeses over the next 7-8+ years. 17.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $45.00
