Very dark, deep, black-red colour, with youthful purple hues, near impenetrable. The bouquet is full and voluminous with aromas of ripe spicy blackberry fruit along with black pepper, plums, minerals and tar, lifted by dark red floral perfumes. This has excellent depth and definition. Full-bodied, sweetly ripe and luscious fruit flavours show with plenty of weight and presence, forming a firm, grainy-textured core. The extraction is a feature but the tannins are sufficiently supple to allow accessibility and the sweet blackberry and peppery fruit to come to the fore. Layers of iron-earth, minerals and spices add interest and flow through an elegant, lingering finish with black and dark red florals. This is a rich, well-structured Syrah with black fruits and minerally, earthy interest. Serve with roasted and grilled game meat dishes over the next 6-8+ years. 81% Syrah, 12% Petite Sirah and 7% Grenache from Santa Barbara, Sonoma and Mendocino, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged over 9 months in 68% French and 32% American oak. 18.0+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $34.00
