Kendall-Jackson ‘Vintner’s Reserve’ California Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from USA
Review Date : 14-Jan-2015
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter edged. The nose is fresh and tightly bound, initially shy, but opening to reveal yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits with minerally lees elements and a layer of nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, vibrant and ripe stonefruit flavours are melded with creamy barrel ferment and nutty oak elements. This has good depth and power, with a fine phenolic thread guiding the wine. The mouthfeel is lively with crisp, lacy acidity balancing the fruit sweetness and creamy oak. There is a completeness of presence which carries through to a long, dry finish. This is an elegant, vibrant, creamy Chardonnay to serve with most white meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from Monterey and Santa Barbara with lesser portions from Medocino and Sonoma, with a small San Luis Obispo component, WBP and barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in French and American oak with batonnage. 18.5-/20 Nov 2014 RRP $34.00
