Full, light golden yellow colour with some depth. The bouquet is elegant, refined and tightly bound, with penetrating aromas of white florals and stonefruits, along with distinctive nutty, yeast lees notes infused with mineral elements. Toasty oak aromas unfold with aeration. Medium-bodied and elegantly presented, tight and concentrated flavours of florals, flint, minerals and nutty, yeasty elements feature on the palate. Fine-textured phenolics and ripe acidity add to the firm core and linearity of the wine. This has excellent drive, focus and clarity, and carries to a tight, crisp, lingering finish with citrus and nutty oak nuances. This Chardonnay has Chablis-like focus and linearity, and has distinctive lees influence. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 4-5+ years. Clones 4, Dijon and Rued, from 52% Monterey and 48% Santa Barbara counties, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 78% French and 22% American oak, 29% new, the wine undergoing batonnage. 18.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $40.00
