Karikari Estate TOA ITI Merlot/ Cabernet Franc/ Tannat 2016, Northland

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 02-Jul-2021
Moderate ruby-black with a slight garnet tinge, lighter on edge. The nose is full and mellow with aromas of black cherries, plums; Kirsch intermixes a hint of smoke and cedar. Full-bodied, nuances of black cherries, plums, strawberries melded with barrel spices, cedar and dark cocoa, unfolding savoury development. The mouthfeel is rich and filling, enriched by fine-grained tannin extraction, linger with dark cocoa nuance and a whiff of smoke. The fruit is reduced, gaining in concentrated aromas supported by balanced, lively acidity. Match with meat stew and Russian baked beef over the next 4-5 years. A blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Tannat (from 2017). 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) July 2021 RRP $30
