Karikari Estate Tannat 2019, Northland

Tannat from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 08-Mar-2022
Full, deep inky ruby-red, lighter on the rim. The nose is vibrant, bursting with red berries, plums and spice, interwoven tobacco and cedar. Full-bodied, juicy red berries, plums enriched by spicy oak, along with tobacco and cedar linger to a long, sustained finish. The mouthfeel is rich and chewy with finely extracted tannins, contributing to a slightly savoury, dark cocoa texture. Lively acidity compliment the sweet fruit and oak, lending a salivating finish. This is a full, rich, varietal Tannat with bright red fruit and mouth-filling tannin structure and strength. Match with tomahawk and lamb ribs over the next 8-12 years. 100% Tannat, handpicked, fermented on skins for 5 weeks to 13.5% alc, aged 24 months in French oak, 30% new oak. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Mar 2022 RRP $45
