Karikari Estate Karikari Peninsula Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 12-Mar-2015
Very full, near saturated purple-hued red colour. This has a full, voluminous nose that builds in depth, intensity and clarity of black berry fruits, liquorice and black pepper and an attractive underlay of oak spice. Full-bodied with explosively rich and ripe, spicy black berry fruits, plums and pepper, this is succulent and sweet, with flavours of Asian spices emerging and adding to the interest. The fruit is framed within a powerful, fully-extracted structure, the tannins fine-grained and hinting at accessibility. The acidity is restrained, and provides a roundness to the mouthfeel. The concentrated palate carries through to a very long and sustained finish of black pepper and liquorice. This is a densely concentrated and structured, ripe Syrah with bold flavours that build in the glass. Serve with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 9-12 years. Hand-picked fruit indigenous yeast fermented to 13.6% alc., the wine aged 8 months in new 500 L French oak puncheons. 18.5+/20 May 2012 RRP $55.00
