Karikari Estate Karikari Peninsula Pinotage 2010

Pinotage from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 02-May-2012
Hand-picked fruit indigenous yeast fermented to 13.6% alc., the wine aged 10 months in a new 500 L French oak puncheon and seasoned high-toast American oak barriques. Very full, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour. The aromatics are a little restrained, but unfold to reveal lifted, savoury dark red berry and floral fruit and subtle oak spices. Full-bodied, this is tightly bound on palate with serious structure and extraction, the wine powerful and concentrated. The tannin grip is a feature and drives the mouthfeel. Sweet, black and dark red berry fruits with savoury floral elements are enhanced by bright acidity, which provides excellent tension and cut. Notes of plums, spices and soy sauce are carried by the firm tannins on the finish. This is a firmly structured wine which shows the Pinotage variety in a well-ripened and serious expression. Serve with coq au vin and roasted or grilled beef and lamb over the next 8-10 years. 18.5-/20 May 2012 RRP $29.50
