Karikari Estate Karikari Peninsula Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 16-Feb-2011
The Karikari Chardonnays seem particularly tight in their youth. Ben Dugdale employs partial wild yeast barrel fermentation with a stainless-steel inoculated component. Pale edged straw-yellow in colour, this is thoroughly modern, cutting edge Chardonnay with tight, nutty, miinerally aromas fully complexed by sulphide elements that dominate the mealy, nutty fruit and oak. Full bodied at 13.3% alc., this is very tightly bound, with the reduction dulling the fruit expression on palate. However, the wine is superbly textured and a richness with good acidity lie within. White peach, citrus fruit and quality oak are waiting to emerge over the next 2 years. The wine will drink well for another 4-5 years after. 17.5/20 Feb 2011 RRP $32.50
