Karikari Estate Karikari Peninsula Chardonnay 2007

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 16-Feb-2011
This has just arrived at its drinking plateau. Brilliant lemon hued straw-yellow in colour, this has a beautifully balanced nose with tight, mealy, nutty fruit that develops richness and reveals layers of smoke and toasty oak, with complex reduction. The bouquet is very White Burgundy. A wine of density and concentration, there is a softness to the ripe mealy, nutty, yellow stonefruit flavours, the oak providing a lift and shine. The flavour amalgam is complex and there is sufficient acidity to provide good tension. This underwent a partial wild yeast fermentation to 13.6% alc. followed by 9 months maturation in mainly French oak, and approx. 25% MLF. This will be excellent drinking over the next 4-5 years. 18.5-/20 Feb 2011 RRP $42.95
