Karikari Estate Calypso Rosé 2021, Northland

Rosé from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 08-Mar-2022
Bright, pale burnt orange colour with depth, even colour throughout, youthful. The wine is packed with deep fragrances of sweet floral, red plums, bramble and spice with a mealy creaminess. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, mouth-filling aromas of red plums, bramble pie interweave baking spice and whipped cream. The mouthfeel is round with a smooth and creamy flow; finely extracted ripe phenolic contributes to a light grip. Baking spice adorned and left a prickly sensation. Balancing juicy acidity lends a moreish finish with a hint of savoury mealiness. This is a creamy, plums and berry fruited rosé with spice and juicy acidity. Match with chorizo & tomato pasta and beef tataki over the next 2-3 years. Merlot fruit dominant with a small portion of Sauvignon, fermented to 13.5% alc, left for 15 months before blending and bottling. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Mar 2022 RRP $30
