Kalex ‘Single Vineyard’ Waipara Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Nov-2014
Fruit from the close-planted ‘Darnley Corner’ vineyard on Glasnevin Gravels, Waipara, given 24 hours skin contact and warm-fermented with full solids to 13.8% alc. and 15.4 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues and some depth, lighter on rim. The bouquet is very individual, intense and penetrating with refreshing aromas of stonefruits, pears, rose-petal florals and ginger, harmoniously layered with minerally reduction. Medium-dry to taste and medium bodied, the palate features lifted, aromatic fruit flavours of spices and rose-petal florals subtly infused with flinty and mineral complexities. The textures are soft and fine, showing excellent phenolics and the palate has balanced acidity providing a slippery flow and good linearity. The fruit core is carried to a long, lingering, lifted and lively finish. This is a slippery flowing medium-dry Pinot Gris with exotic floral flavours and minerally complexities. Serve with seafood and Asian cuisine over the next 3-4 years. 18.5/20 Jan 2014 RRP $24.00
