Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 16-Sep-2022
Moderately deep ruby-red, even colour throughout. The nose is youthful, vibrant and pretty, packed with lifted floral perfume, black cherry, boysenberry and a hint of pepper. Medium-bodied, black cherry and boysenberry aromas have a savoury tone, unveiling hibiscus, lavender, bitter orange, cinnamon and pepper. The mouthfeel is smooth with powdery tannin extraction. Integrated acidity carries a hint of bitterness and delicate spice, leaving a warming finish with added interest. This elegant Pinot Noir shows delicate whole bunch details of floral, spice and bitterness with a black-fruited core and a gentle, silky mouthfeel. Match with pigeon and roasted quail over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from Bendigo subregion, clones 777, 115, Abel & UCD5, fermented in three batches, 100% whole bunch, 70% whole bunch, and the other 100% destemmed, all with natural yeast, 23 days on skins, aged in 100% old French oak barrels for 12 months. 13.5%. Unfined and unfiltered. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Sep 2022 RRP $46
