Kairos ‘Fait Main’ Martinborough Pinot Noir 2009

Made from Abel and 10/5 clone fruit from a 10 y.o. vineyard from the Martinborough Terrace, fully destemmed and wild yeast fermented to 14.0% alc. The wine had one month of skin contact and was aged 14 months in seasoned French oak barriques. Very pale ruby-red with garnet hues on edge, this has a soft, but piquant lifted nose of cooked, savoury soft red fruits along with sour cherries and dried herbs. The medium-full bodied palate has light flavours of earthy red fruits, quite savoury, with plenty of racy acidity which lifts the fruitiness. There is a good core which is framed by supple, moderately extracted tannins. This is approachable now but will drink well over the next 3-5 years. Very European in outlook.  Sep 2011
