Julicher Martinborough Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 11-Aug-2013
Light ruby-red with a little garnet. The nose has an array of fruit aromas, with savoury red berries, red florals, dried herbs and an oak char and complex, reductive layering. Medium-bodied, the palate has an elegant and refined core of red fruits, and tamarillos, with herbal interest. A charry, reductive character is prevalent. The palate is framed by very fine-grained tannins, providing a refined mouthfeel, and is kept fresh by good acidity. A little alcoholic line drives the flow to a light, tight finish with some length. This is an elegant and refined red-fruited wine marked by charry notes. 4-5 years. Abel, 115 and 777 clone fruit from the ‘Julicher Estate’ in Te Muna Road, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 35% new French oak. 17.5+/20 Aug 2013 RRP $42.00 Abel, 115 and 777 clone fruit from the ‘Julicher Estate' in Te Muna Road, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 35% new French oak. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black-red hues. This has a soft, full and open nose with savoury red berry fruits and notes of complexing game and nuances of undergrowth with a touch of reduction adding interest. Medium-full bodied, plush and openly presented flavours of savoury dark berry fruits are intertwined with savoury game and mushroom elements. A restrained juiciness gives way to very fine tannins and balanced acidity underlining the palate, providing gentle energy and drive. The palate blossoms to a fulsome and rounded finish with moderately sustained flavours of red berry fruit and florals. This is a soft and plush Pinot Noir with fine tannins supporting savoury fruit flavours. Match with Mediterranean fare over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5+/20 Nov 2012 RRP $42.00
