Julicher ’99 Rows’ Martinborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 27-Jul-2015
Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with a dark heart. This has a soft and integrated, voluminous bouquet with gently unfolding layers of savoury, secondary developed aromatics of dried herbs, undergrowth, earth, spices and hints of mushrooms. Soft, mouthfilling and very smooth-flowing, with lush layers of complex secondary flavours. The extraction is more modest, and the cooler vintage higher acidity is noticeable. This has depth and harmony. 17.5/20 Jul 2015 RRP $34.00 Moderately dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is solid and firm with a complex amalgam of savoury red berry fruits harmoniously entwined with aromas dried herbs, earth and game, building to show real depth. Medium-bodied, up-front, sweet and lush flavours of savoury, earthy red berry fruits are integrated with layers of dried herbs, spices, earth and liquorice. This has a soft, concentrated core, and the mouthfeel is textured with fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity providing support, structure and linearity. The palate leads to a succulent but light and restrained finish. This is an up-front, classical Martinborough Pinot Noir with savoury red fruit, herbs, earthy and spicy flavours. Match with barbecued food, coq au vin and casseroles over the next 4+ years. Clones 5, 6, 114, 115, 667, 777 and Abel from the estate blocks on Te Muna Road and a vineyard in the Martinborough Terrace, the fruit hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 12.32% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. 17.5/20 Jun 2014 RRP $32.00
