Johner Estate Wairarapa Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 29-May-2017
Bright straw-yellow colour with slight lemon-green hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is light and elegant in proportion with an aromatic core of white and yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit, alongside notes of creamy, spicy barrel-ferment and nutty lees elements. A subtle butteriness adds to the richness. Medium-full bodied, the palate has elegant flavours of white and yellow stonefruits that form a softly concentrated, rounded core that flows with good energy along a fine-textured line, unfolding creamy and nutty barrel-ferment and buttery lees notes. The wine leads to a lingering finish of citrus fruits, nuts and butterscotch. This is a fresh, brisk Chardonnay with a soft core of stonefruits and citrus fruits along with creamy barrel-ferment and nutty, buttery lees elements. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years. A blend of Gladstone ‘Home’ block, ‘Petrie Waingawa’ and Martinborough fruit, partly WBP, and fully fermented in 500 L seasoned oak to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 7 months on lees in barrel with no MLF. 17.5/20 May 2017 RRP $26.00
