Johner Estate Wairarapa Cabernet/Merlot/Malbec 2008

Malbec from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 01-Mar-2011
Very youthful, deep, purple hued ruby-red in colour, this has a fresh, tight and intense bouquet of blackcurrants and cassis with mint and herbal nuances. An elegant wine at 13.5% alc., this has rather restrained and delicate fruit flavours of blackcurrants and spicy black fruits. The fine-grained tannin structure is the feature, providing grip through the palate. The wine tastes youthful, the fresh acidity providing tension. This will develop into a stylish and well-proportioned wine over the next 4-6+ years and match roasted red meat dishes. Fruit from Johner Estate, and from 20 y.o. vines in Martinborough. 35% Malbec, 25% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, aged in French oak around 15 months. 16.5+/20 Mar 2011 RRP $40.00
