Johner Estate ‘Single Vineyard Sur Lie’ Gladstone Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 16-Apr-2015
Brilliant, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on edge. The nose is full with a gentle core of gooseberry fruit that unfolds subtle layers of bean and asparagus secondary nuances along with fresh herb and chalky, mineral and flint detail. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of gooseberries and stonefruits are initially restrained. Herbs and minerals with a suggestion of beans emerge, adding to the subtle fruit sweetness and richness. The palate is smooth flowing and has good weight, with balanced, lively acidity. This has a good core with linearity and some power, and the wine carries to a rounded, sustained finish. This lees-influenced Sauvignon Blanc has good weight with stylish fruit richness and power. Serve with seafood and herb-marinated white meat dishes over the next 3 years. Fruit from the ‘Johner’ vineyard, indigenous yeast fermented with 10% in barrel to 13.5% alc. and 3.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 9 months on lees in seasoned oak. 17.5/20 Apr 2015 RRP $24.00
