Johner Estate Martinborough Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 16-Apr-2015
Bright pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on edge. This has a very refined and elegant nose with tightly bound aromas of white stonefruits along with citrus fruit, flint and minerals. This is steely and refreshing, revealing nutty oak nuances with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate features a tight core of citrus fruit and yellow stonefruits. This has good weight and intensity, the wine growing in presence and roundness, along with suggestion of creamy barrel-ferment textures. The mouthfeel is balanced by a fine textural thread and crisp, refreshing acidity that carries the wine to a long, nutty, softly concentrated finish. This is a crisp and elegant Chardonnay with a core of citrus and yellow stonefruits and some barrel-ferment richness. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. Martinborough fruit indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 25% new French oak, undergoing batonnage for 4 months, but no MLF. 17.5-/20 Apr 2015 RRP $26.00
