Johner Estate ‘Lyndor’ Wairarapa Cabernet/Merlot 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 16-Apr-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is moderately deep with elegantly concentrated aromas of blackcurrants and spicy plums harmoniously melded with lifted herbs, oak spice and savoury olive and stalky nuances. This has soft, but significant presence. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a deep core of concentrated and densely packed flavours of blackcurrants and black plums, with notes of olive, tapenade, earth and savoury herbs and stalks. The fruit is rich and sweet, and well-balanced by fine-grained tannin structure. This has good vitality and liveliness, with positive underlying acidity carrying the wine to a spicy, oaky, and lingering finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, lusciously rich Cabernet and Merlot blend with currant, plum, olive and stalky flavours and a vibrant, finely structured palate. Match with roasted red game meat dishes over the next 5-7 years. 30% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot from the ‘Lyndor’ vineyard in the eastern Gladstone hills, vines planted in 1986, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins 3 weeks and aged 12 months in 100% new French oak. 17.5/20 Apr 2015 RRP $50.00
