Johner Estate ‘Lyndor’ Wairarapa Cabernet/Merlot 2010

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 21-Apr-2014
33% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot from the ‘Lyndor’ vineyard, East Masterton, from vines planted in 1986, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 15 months in new French oak. Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated with deep aromas of savoury, dark currant and plum fruit, along with nutty oak and earthy, dried herbal layers, all softly interwoven. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours are shy, but the palate has good vinous body and a deep-hearted core. Soft, savoury plum and dark, earthy, curranty flavours are spiced by cedary, dusty oak, and the mouthfeel is harmoniously melded. Fine-grained tannins and balanced acid tension underline the palate flow, leading to a concentrated and moderately long finish. This is a soft-textured, dense Cabernet and Merlot blend with savoury currant flavours and spicy oak. Serve with Mediterranean fare, roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $50.00
