Johner Estate Gladstone Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 01-Mar-2011
Saturated black-red in colour, this has an elegant, but intense nose of white pepper, savoury black berry fruits, fresh herbs, mint and ink, showing the cooler expression of Syrah. An elegantly structured wine with fine tannin extraction, the fresh acidity is prominent with the peppery black berries, spice and sappy flavours sitting alongside. This is identifiably Syrah in the cooler spectrum, a little raw, and still to come together, but with a pleasing expression. Made from fruit from one row in the main block, and from the trial block on the Johner Estate, fermented to 14.5% alc., and aged 20 months in around 25% new oak barrels. A wine to match herb-marinated red meats over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 Mar 2011 RRP $55.00
