Johner Estate Gladstone Sauvignon Blanc ‘Sur Lie’ 2016

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 29-May-2017
Brilliant, pale straw-yellow colour with light green hues. The nose is softly presented with very fresh fruit aromas of ripe gooseberries entwined with subtle herbal notes and suggestions of mineral, nutty lees. This is refreshing and mouthwatering in detail. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is crisp and refreshing with bright and lively flavours of ripe gooseberries along with subtle notes of herbs and nuts. The palate is juicy and thirst-quenching with brisk acidity, and the wine flows along a light, phenolic-textured line, carrying with good energy and drive to a long and sustained finish of juicy gooseberry fruit. This is a bright and lively, thirst-quenching Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and herb flavours and subtle nutty suggestions. Match with salads and vegetables, and herb-marinated seafood and poultry dishes over the next 2+ years. Estate fruit from the ‘Home’ block tank-fermented with 10% in seasoned German oak to 13.0% alc., the oak portion aged in barrel for 5 months, the remainder on lees for 7 months. 17.5+/20 May 2017 RRP $24.00
