Johner Estate Gladstone Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 21-Apr-2014
Deep ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is gently full with soft aromas of savoury dark red berry fruit, lifted with floral elements along with layers of spicy, nutty and resinous oak, earth, and dried herbal interest, all harmoniously presented. Medium-full bodied, soft and plush flavours of savoury plum and berry fruits are the feature on palate, forming a good core and heart. The fruit has bright, lacy acidity and supple, light tannins in support providing a fresh mouthfeel and an elegance of flow, leading to a sustained, savoury, earthy and dried herb finish. This is a plush, fruity and elegant Pinot Noir with savoury fruit and a supple palate. Match with wild duck, pork and hare over the next 5+ years. Clones 115, 667, 777 and 5 from Johner Estate, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented with 20% whole cluster to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins and aged 12 months in 30% new French oak barrels. 17.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $34.00
