John Forrest ‘Collection’ Waitaki Valley North Otago Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 11-Jun-2012
Brilliant, even straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. This has a very fine, aromatic bouquet of white florals and stonefruits unfolding to reveal delicate notes of pears, honey, spices and minerals. Dryish to taste and elegantly presented, this is still tightly bound, but shows excellent concentration of pure stonefruit flavours with lovely line and an understated power and drive.. Nuances of spiced pears and distinct minerally notes combine with fine lacy acidity resulting in a mouthwatering palate. Refined textures add to the smooth flow and lead to a lovely delicate, sustained finish. This is an elegant, pure Pinot Gris with lovely delicacy that will make it a match with Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine over the next 4-5+ years. Hand-picked fruit transported cold to Marlborough for vinification. Cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 10 g/L rs, the wine given 6 months lees aging. 18.5-/20 Jun 2012 RRP $40.00
