A blend of 45% Clone 15 Brancott Valley clay soils, 40% Clone 95 from Gibson Creek stoney alluvial soils and 15% Mendoza from Wairau Valley sands, barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc. Bright, light lemon-gold colour with green glints, this has a very fine and intense nose of citrus and mealy fruit with beautifully balanced spicy oak. The palate is very finely proportioned, still tightly bound, the citrussy fruit unfolding in layers with mealy, nutty oak and spice notes filling the mouth. There is a warmth and richness from the creamy barrel-fermentation, and all the componentry is interwoven seamlessly. A wine of elegance with richness and power, this will continue to evolve over the next 5-7 years. 200 dozen made.  Aug 2011
