Johanneshof Marlborough Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 23-May-2014
Bright, full, light golden-straw colour with a suggestion of blush, showing some depth. The bouquet is rich, full and voluminous with aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits, lifted by yellow florals and complexed by layers of honeysuckle, earth and funky flint notes. Off-dry to taste, intense and concentrated flavours of savoury yellow stonefruits are melded with earth and flinty notes forming a rich, dense and well-concentrated palate. The wine is rounded and softly textured with balanced underlying acidity and a fine-textured line in support. Honey, minerals and stonefruit kernel flavours unfold, and are carried by the alcoholic drive to a strong and positive finish. This is a complex, layered off-dry Pinot Gris with density, richness and underlying power in the Alsace style. Match with fulsome white meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit fermented to 13.0% alc. and 8 g/L RS. 18.5/20 May 2014 RRP $28.00
