Johanneshof Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2016

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 21-Jul-2017
Bright, even. Light golden-yellow colour, a little paler on the rim. The nose is gently full and voluminous with softly concentrated aromas of rose-petal florals, Turkish Delight, musk and savoury honey, and fresh, steely, root-ginger notes. This has excellent presence, balance and unfolds layers of detail. Medium-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has up-front and intense flavours of Turkish Delight, rose-petal florals, savoury honey and musk notes, entwined with root-ginger elements. The fruit forms an elegantly concentrated core, and the mouthfeel has richness and is near-unctuous. Fresh, lacy acidity underlines the fruit, and the wine flows smoothly along a fine phenolic line with a little alcoholic drive, leading to a rich, generous finish with a touch of balancing classical varietal bitterness. This is an elegantly concentrated medium-dry Gewurztraminer with an array of rich aromatic, musky flavours and complexing savoury root-ginger suggestions on a near-unctuous palate. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the Lower Wairau, fermented in tank to 14.0% alc. and 10 g/L RS. 18.5+/20 Jul 2017 RRP $29.00
