Johanneshof Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2014

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Aug-2015
Fruit from two sites, in the Lower Wairau and Grovetown districts, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 20 g/L RS, a small portion aged briefly in oak, the wine spending 12 months on lees. Bright, even straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. This has an elegantly proportioned, finely concentrated nose with good intensity of lychee aromas entwined with rose-petal florals and subtle root-ginger and spice detail. There is freshness and youthful cut to the aromatics. Medium in sweetness and medium-light bodied, the palate features an elegantly concentrated core of savoury rose-petals, Turkish Delight, lychees and root ginger. Nuances of honey emerge and add richness. The mouthfeel is rounded and grows in unctuousness, with soft acidity lending positive drive and freshness. This is smooth-flowing and harmonious, with some underlying power and drive carrying the wine to a soft, lingering finish with motes of honey and spice. This is an elegant, medium-sweet Gewurztraminer with a smooth, rounded and near unctuous mouthfeel. Match with Middle Eastern fare over the next 4+ years. 18.0/20 Aug 2015 RRP $29.00
