JC Soho Reserve 2020, Waiheke Island

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 05-Jul-2022
Full, deep ruby-red, even colour throughout. The nose is full and youthful with bright aromas of red berries, cassis and plums entwined with vanilla, clove, black tea quality oak fragrance, and earthy elements. Full-bodied, red berries, cassis and plums fill the palate, unfolding vanilla, clove, dark chocolate and black tea nuances. A touch of leather and earth added complexity. Vibrant acidity contributes to the vitality and focused finish. The mouthfeel is smooth with fine-structured tannin. This youthful Waiheke red blend with a red fruit core, enriched by new oak, spice details, chocolate and black tea fragrant, will benefit from cellaring. Match with red meat over the next 10 years. Fruit from Carter Family Vineyard in Onetangi, a blend of 59% Merlot, 25% Malbec and 16% Petit Verdot, 14% alc. Tribute to the late John Carter. 18.5+/20 (94 pts) July 2022 RRP $150
