Jackson Estate ‘Shelter Belt’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 09-Nov-2011
Bright pale straw-yellow colour, pale on rim, the bouquet is full, soft and broad with aromatic citrus fruit along with notes of butter, cream and nuts as well as a steely, minerally edge. Dry and medium-full bodied, the palate is extremely smooth, seamless and harmonious, with interwoven flavours of ripe citrus fruits, butter and gentle toasted nuts. A fine line of acidity provides freshness and focus, and along with a subtle drive, this has a sustained creamy finish. A wonderfully harmonious and softly textured wine with the richness to match seafood, poultry and pork as well as creamy pasty dishes over the next 4-5 years. This is named after the thick macrocarpa hedge between the grounds of the Stitchbury's ‘Runnymeade' homestead and the Chardonnay block on the ‘Grey Ghost' vineyard. Clone 95 from the ‘Grey Ghost' site, WBP, barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in 25% new French oak for 11 months with lees contact and MLF. 18.5-/20 Nov 2011 RRP $22.50
