Jaboulet ‘La Chapelle’ Hermitage 1983

Syrah from France - Rhone
Review Date : 03-Jan-2015
Dark-hearted brick red with faded edge. This has a slender nose with good concentration of savoury wood and undergrowth aromas in the secondary and tertiary spectrum, revealing earth, mineral and cedary elements. The aromatics are refined and fully integrated. Medium-bodied, the flavours are sweet and lush with savoury meat, wood, herb and earth. Some spice and peppery elements still show. This is very smooth-flowing and integrated, and the wine follows a very fine line of tannin, assisted by some acid energy. The palate carries to a light, leathery finish with tertiary earthy detail. Fully developed and still with sweetness, this will continue to hold for another 3-4+ years. 100% Syrah, up to 60% whole clusters, fermented to 13.0% alc., cuvaison around 3 weeks, the wine aged 12-14 months in seasoned oak. 17.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $235.00 (Wine-Searcher average)
