Jaboulet ‘Domaine de Thalabert’ Crozes-Hermitage 1985

Syrah from France - Rhone
Review Date : 25-Feb-2013
100% Syrah, 12.5% alc. Dark garnet-red colour with mahogany hues. This has a firmly packed nose with fullish aromas of dark and savoury herb and peppery fruit intermixed with vegetal notes. This is dense and solid, and unfolds earthy nuances. Medium-bodied, the flavours are on the weedy, sappy side, but identifiably savoury and peppery with herbal and earthy, fungal interest. This appears in the cooler spectrum of ripeness. The tannin grip has become resolved, and faded, leaving the acidity lively, brisk and pronounced. The flavours fade on the finish with subtle pepper and stalky notes. This is losing structure and leaving sappy fruit and acidity behind. This is disappointing for a strong vintage. 14.5+/20 Feb 2013
