Instinct Wairarapa Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 03-Jun-2014
A new release to follow the Instinct Martinborough Pinot Noir 2009. Clones 115, 114, 10/5, 777 and Abel from a vineyard north-west of Masterton fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine partially aged in French barriques. Light garnet-hued red with some depth, pale on edge. This has a light, attractively soft, complex bouquet of savoury red berry fruits with game, mushroom, truffle and forest-floor aromas. A medium-weighted wine, the palate is initially dry and finely firm, but opens up to show gently luscious flavours of savoury red fruits, dried herbs, secondary mushroom and undergrowth complexities. The tannin extraction is gentle and endows the wine with soft textures. The wine is more forward than its ‘Martinborough' sibling, but more interesting for it. Drink with anything mushroomy over the next 3-4 years. 16.5-/20 May 2011 RRP $20.00
