Instinct Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Jun-2014
This is the third release of Syrah under the Instinct label and shows the increasing fruit richness allied to greater tannin refinement in this style. Very dark, very deep black-hued ruby-red colour with light purple hues on edge, this has a full, very aromatic nose of ripe dark red berry fruit with black and white pepper perfumes, quite lifted and up-front. Medium-full bodied at 13.0% alc., this is very fresh and linear with its black fruit, pepper and spice flavours supported by supple tannin textures and fresh acidity. Oaking is sensitive and is in harmony. There is a tightness and compact proportion that it will enable it to drink well with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine, as well as pizza and pasta dishes over the next 4-5 years.  100% Syrah, 74% Gimblett Road, 13% each Esk Valley and Triangle fruit, the Gimblett wine aged in 10% new equivalence French oak, the remainder in seasoned oak.  17.5/20 Aug 2011 RRP $22.50
