Incognito ‘Prestige’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet 2007

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Sep-2011
A blend of 67% Merlot, 18% Malbec and 14% Cabernet, all from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in French and American oak. Dark, deep ruby-red colour, intense and concentrated aromas of black berry and dark plum fruits along with complex secondary earth and iron elements unfold in layers on the nose. This is a full-bodied, powerfully concentrated wine with a degree of elegance in the proportion on the palate. Vibrant, intense black fruits, oak cedar and spices form a tight core. Nuances of earth, tar and minerals from bottle development are appearing. The structure is firm and significant, but the extraction is fine-grained, the tannins driving the long finish where sweet fruit notes emerge. Match with fine lamb, beef and venison dishes, and with hard cheeses over the next 9-12 years. 18.5/20 Sep 2011 RRP $29.99
