Incognito Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Nov-2011
Fruit from a single vineyard on Gimblett Road, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 42% new French oak barriques. Bright, dark ruby-red colour with some purple hues. This has a soft, ripe nose of black-red fruits, liquorice and spicy plums, harmonious in presentation with good depth. Medium-full bodied, this is up-front with sweet, ripe black berry, plum and black pepper flavours that are melded with liquorice, spice and cedar elements that gently unfold and fill the mouth. Soft, grainy tannins lend a dry, but fine texture, and the rounded palate has subdued acidity. The wine finishes with moderate length and rests on its mild tannins. A spicy, sweet-fruited Syrah with good tannin backbone carrying the wine. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4- years. 17.5-/20 Nov 2011 RRP $14.99
