Incognito Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Nov-2011
Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has an elegant and softly presented bouquet with a core of ripe dark plum fruit along with iron-earth notes and hints of liquorice and chocolate. Medium-full bodied, there are layers of flavours harmoniously interwoven on the palate, with redcurrants, lifted red berry fruits and plums, spices, cedar and milk chocolate. Smooth and soft in texture, fine, powdery tannins provide a supple structure, and restrained acidity adds to the integrated nature of the wine. The finish is long and silky with attractive cedar flavours. A fine-grained, smooth and cedary wine to serve with Mediterranean fare over the next 4-5+ years. Single-vineyard Gimblett Road fruit fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 60% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Nov 2011 RRP $14.99
