Hunky Dory Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 17-Jan-2014
Fruit from the ‘Strawlodge’ and ‘Anduhlane’ sites in the Upper Wairau Valley and the ‘Tobermore’ vineyard in the Rapaura district, hand-picked, destemmed and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in French oak. Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is bold with fresh, primary, bright, dark raspberry fruit aromas with underlying dark herb elements and a little reduction. The aromatics grow in volume, unfolding ripe raspberry liqueur notes in the glass. Medium-bodied, this has a full, up-front flavoured palate of dark raspberry fruit intermixed with herbs and earthy reduction. The wine is open and mouthfilling with good depth, and the mouthfeel is lush and juicy from fresh and youthful acidity. Supple, but grainy tannins lie under the fruit and lead the palate to a dry, textured finish showing some earthy reduction. This is a full, up-front raspberry fruited Pinot Noir with a supple mouthfeel. Serve with pasta, poultry and barbecued food over the next 3-4 years. 17.0+/20 Jan 2014 RRP $24.00
